Being discriminated against is an experience that you should not ignore, especially if you have been treated unfairly by your own employer. You are entitled to take action against an employer if you have been discriminated against based on factors like race, age, gender or disability. Reach out to an employment lawyer that you can talk to for more information. It can be hard to know the signs right when they happen. Some examples of discrimination include the following scenarios.

Age Discrimination

While some companies do hire elderly workers, companies may not necessarily have policies that are accepting of them. Age discrimination is when a company discriminates against workers of particular age groups, as workers who are over 55 years of age. This is common in industries such as tech and real estate. There are a number of signs that can indicate age discrimination. A worker may not be given the proper training materials or time to complete their task, or a worker may be denied a promotion because they are considered too elderly.

Gender Discrimination

Another type of discrimination that many employers engage in is gender discrimination. If you have been discriminated against because of your gender or sexual orientation you may be able to file a claim against the employer for their actions. There is no excuse for gender discrimination. If you have experienced harassment or discrimination based on your gender, you can file a complaint against your employer and report them for discrimination.

Racial Discrimination

Racial discrimination refers to when a person is discriminated against on the basis of their race, country of origin, ethnicity or nationality. It is illegal to treat a worker differently because of their race. Examples of racial discrimination include making a worker do their tasks in the back of the store while workers of other races can work in more visible areas, or paying workers of a certain race or ethnicity much lower than workers of other races.

Disability Discrimination

Every disabled worker has rights in the workplace. People of all disabilities should be given the appropriate accommodations at their work given to them by an employer. If a worker with a disability requests that they need specific accommodations to be able to do their job effectively and to the best of their ability, the employer must grant that request. If you have been denied a request that is specific to your disability, you may be able to file a disability discrimination claim with the help of a competent employment discrimination lawyer like one from Hoyer Law Group, PLLC
