Each year, residents of central Virginia contribute to the protection of the Rivanna River and watershed. It’s a challenge and a calling that will help provide a better environment for future generations, while improving the safety of the groundwater and making Charlottesville and other nearby areas nicer places to live. It’s something that people “never stop working on” as they look to improve the local landscape and provide longevity for the natural resources at their disposal.
The Rivanna Conservation Alliance is working on initiatives to improve the Rivanna watershed area. Volunteers help with things like river cleanup and physical monitoring of the watershed for issues. An article in the Rural Virginian shows this happening, and talks about recent efforts. This type of initiative, which has also been covered by newspapers like the Daily Progress and Charlottesville Tomorrow, is vital to the improvement of our local community and its natural resources.
But in working on river protection and river safety, there’s really kind of a two-pronged job in play. Advocates are trying to protect those natural resources and the environment — but at the same time, they also have to focus on public safety.
Public Safety is a Concern
Many types of public safety issues involve bodies of water. There is the threat of pollution and the necessity of keeping volunteers and others protected while they are out in natural areas. There’s also the importance of creating safe infrastructure, including, for example, railings on bridges, as well as the promotion of the safe use of waterways during boating season. Boating safety is a major element that’s extremely important (as any public planner can attest to), and it’s one of those things that advocates focus on as summer quickly approaches.
Experienced personal injury attorneys understand the “second half” of these ecological efforts. We’ve seen all of the scenarios that focus on what’s been done and what’s not been done to make environmental efforts “human friendly” and to be sure that whatever is done in a community has a positive effect on the safety of residents.
In short, the kinds of good jobs that protect tomorrow’s people should also protect the people of today. And just as important, focus on the environment or ecology should not overshadow the need for safe and secure environments for residents.
Of course, ecology and safety often go together. Personal injury attorneys understand the primary forces at work in a community and whether they skew toward better or worse outcomes for residents. In this practice, we “see it all” and you never stop working to advance the common good.
