The Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration conducted a study to assess the noise levels, whole-body vibration for drivers and passengers, and in-cab air quality for tractor trailers and Heavy-Duty Diesel Trucks (HDDTs). According to the FMSCA, these factors were studied because they are believed to be related to the health and performance of heavy commercial truck drivers, and the study will serve as a baseline to assess the extent to which these conditions are improved in future commercial trucks.
These types of studies are important because most tractor trailer accidents are caused by driver error, resulting from fatigue, distracted driving, or certain impairments. Given the often disastrous results of 18-wheeler accidents, it is important to continue to take steps to identify the causes of these accidents and minimize them to the greatest extent possible.
